District Governor: Roy Nichols (Rotary Club of Heidelberg)
President: Jack Dyason
Secretary: Bob Fraser
Treasurer: Bob Ferguson

A television set was purchased and installed at Brunswick Elderly Citizens Welfare Centre.

Another weekend visit was made to Portsea to collect and deliver firewood for the Dalgany Deaf and Dumb Childrens Home. There was an exceptional roll up of members of our Club and 65 to 70 tons of firewood was obtained. Rotarians were accommodated over the weekend at some of our members holiday homes.

A toy making project was commenced at the factory of Alf Wehl Cabinets on Monday nights and our Club members made toys and building blocks to entertain the children at the Brunswick Creche and the Brunswick Free Kindergarten.

The 1961 Christmas picnic was again held at the home of Mick Hudson at Sorrento. Forty eight Asian nurses were collected by our members from the various hospitals and these along with Rotarians and families were entertained by the Flinders Naval Depot Band. Father Christmas was transported on a Fire Engine supplied by the Sorrento Fire Brigade.

The Schools Public Speaking Contest was held at Peter Peppard’s Showroom in Sydney Road and 72 contestants participated. The standard of these young speakers was excellent and gave the judges a difficult task to select the winner.

For the first year of operation of the Opportunity Shop the sum of one thousand seven hundred pounds was evenly distributed between the Brunswick Creche, Brunswick Girls & Boys Club, Don Bosco Youth Club and the War Widows & Widowed Mothers Association, members of which gave their time and service to attend to the various jobs required to keep the Opportunity Shop functioning. The Rotary Club provides the Chairman and two members of the Committee of Management and will continue to do so as an ongoing project.
