District Governor: Geoff Stevens (Rotary Club of Hawthorn)
President: Lauri Penttila
Secretary: Bruce Le Page
Treasurer: Bob Ferguson

The Club's main project for this Rotary Year involved the raising of $10,000 to assist in the purchase of the "Sheltered Workshop" site.

The Sheltered Workshop Committee formed in the 1967-1968 Rotary Year was the same as this Rotary Year, with the exception of Charles Handwerk who resigned due to pressure of work and was replaced by Reg Geary.

Letters and pamphlets were sent to businesses in and around the Brunswick area seeking a donation towards this worthy cause. The members of our Club contributed generously as well as contacting and further explaining the purpose of the Sheltered Workshop to businesses to which letters had been sent. President Lauri Penttila spread our Workshop story to the Rotary Clubs of Fitzroy and Coburg and also to our District Conference.

Clifton Brick Holdings Limited has offered to sell the Sheltered Workshop land and building at the same price per foot as the adjoining vacant land. The price offered was $36,000 a most generous offer, and one which was accepted. $4,000 was received from an anonymous donor.

500 skeins of wool were provided by our Club and delivered to the Brunswick Girls School, and more than 60 jumpers were knitted by the girls and given to the children at the "Sutherland Homes". This was a really excellent effort.

Five seats were obtained and supplied by our Club to the Brunswick Girls High School as they were in need of seating accommodation.

Two members of our Club had a meeting with the State Health Minister, Mr. Rossiter, in an endeavour to improve conditions at the Brunswick Girls High School.

Several functions were held during this Rotary Year including a "Progressive Dinner", a "Dinner Dance" held at Ardmillan House, and a "Picture Night" held at Mount Royal. All were well attended and were each a financial success.

The International Picnic was held at John and Monica Coleman's Hotel at Dromana. The Asian Nurses were collected from various hospitals and Father Christmas presented toys and gifts to the children and nurses present; the day was very successful.

The "International Convention" for this Rotary Year was held in Sydney from Sunday 17 to Thursday 21 May. The pace was set on the Sunday evening by the International President, Bill Walk, who created a wonderful atmosphere as a prelude to entertainment for approximately one and a half hours by Winifred Atwell and Kamahl who entertained all present with a variety of items.

The Convention was an outstanding success with 18,200 registrations.

Amongst the excellent speakers were Sir Walter Scott and Sir Edmund Hillary. It was fascinating to hear of some of their experiences and their thoughts on the problems of the countries visited by them. Our Club members who were privileged to attend the Conference stayed at the Cronulla Hotel and on the Thursday evening visited the St. George's League Club which proved to be a social and financial success.
