Our first meeting of this Rotary Year was held on the 7th July. President Ron advised the Club had received a letter from Alma Nunan expressing her gratitude for the hospitality extended to her over the past six years in Jack Nunan's memory.
The artist for this year's bulletin publications is Andrew Paoli. Besides being the President's son, Andrew is a Graphic Art Designer. He provides his work freely to the Club. Thank you, Andrew.
The official visit of the District Governor, David Rosback and his wife Judi, was at our Club meeting on the 14th July. David commended the Brunswick Club on its community service work; the decision to re-start the tree planting program that had been in operation previously; and our participation in the Youth Exchange Program. David shared with members four projects he is giving top priority, they are:- The School for the Deaf; the 150th anniversary of the Botanical Gardens; the Rotary Health Research Foundation and the Cornerstone Rotary Foundation. David also spoke about the 90th birthday celebrations of Rotary planned for February 1995.
A most interesting job talk was given at our Club meeting on the 21st July. It was by our President Elect Max Fremder dating back some forty years in the Agricultural Chemical Industry which was in its infancy compared to where it is today. It was the story of a man who through his enterprise and hard work journeyed from success to success. He thinks the only way one can say he was lucky was to be at the right place at the right time, and to have a go.
The meeting on the 28th July was a very special day for Will Moulding (our only Charter Member in the Club) on his 90th birthday. The Club presented him with a large birthday cake 50 x 25 centimetres in the form of a golf bag complete with golf ball and tees with chocolate handle and strap. Clarice was also presented with a beautiful arrangement of flowers. Jack Davis, Greg Sewell, Colin Simpson, Owen Whelan and Jim Allan gave away many of Will's secrets. There were eleven "Rotary Anns" present along with eight past members, including Archbishop Frank Little (Sir Frank). Will, who is usually outspoken, was overcome with the occasion.
The Great Rotary Quiz was again held this year on the 4th August at the Brunswick Club. Our representatives were Les Gordon, Michael Leahy and Russell Badham. They had the distinction of defeating the representatives of the Fitzroy Rotary Club in the first round.
A letter was received from Clarice Moulding which read:-
Dear Rotary Boys,
How very enjoyable it was last Thursday to join with you to wish Will well on his 90th birthday. I thank you for your kindness to me in presenting the lovely arrangement of flowers and the birthday cake for Will, which was a masterpiece in decoration of a golf bag. God bless.
Yours sincerely,
Clarice Moulding
The first fund raiser for the 1994-1995 Rotary Year was a "Wine Night" held at the Abbruzzo Club on the 11th August at 6pm. It comprised of a fine three course meal with wine and cost $30 per head. The Club funds benefited to the extent of $3,798.
The meeting on the 3rd November was a "Breakfast Meeting" held at the Brunswick Baths through our member Phil Hare, the manager of the Baths. Some of our members had a swim prior to breakfast at 7:30am which comprised of cereals, slices of mango, eggs, toast and a cappuccino, a real healthy breakfast. Phil then gave a most interesting talk.
The annual official visit of the Fitzroy Rotary Club was held on the 8th December. Quite a number of their members were present and it was a very pleasant meeting. We were entertained by Keith Turner who spoke about his trip with his wife, Jill, to Bangkok and their experiences on the East Orient Express to Singapore.

Our President Ron had an eventful trip to Italy. His Pensione bedroom caught fire and all their belongings were lost.

This effort will stretch the resources of the Club - it was therefore necessary that the Club make a great effort to raise $20,000 during the remainder of the 1994-1995 Rotary Year. Tom Cross, at our meeting on the 23rd February, gave a detailed report on the project.

The dinner proved a great occasion for the 72 persons present. The guest speaker was Peter Hudson, President of the Hawthorn Football Club. His contribution was greatly appreciated, the Rotary Club benefited by some $2,000 for the day.
At the meeting of 16th March, Pat Lennon, a new member to our Club, gave a most interesting job talk on how to become a lawyer. Job talks are very informative and enable us to know more about our fellow members.
The Brunswick Rotary Club is very proud of our outgoing student, Marita Dyson, whom the Club sent to Japan. She sends the most interesting letters regularly, these are printed in the Bulletin as they are so informative. The same can be said about John Macaulay, whom we sent to Brazil. These two outgoing students are wonderful ambassadors for Australia.
